My top ten favourites of 2013

For a lot of this year I was using Rimmels Match Perfection foundation in shade 100, Ivory which I did like and was great for the summer as it is light weight and sheer, but buildable. However, when it came to buying a new foundation I wanted to try something new as I wanted a bit more coverage and I wasn’t so keen on the smell of the Match Perfection. So, I went for the popular Healthy Mix foundation. I had tried this before but wasn’t amazingly impressed as it seemed to go patchy throughout the day; but I wanted to give it another go as it has been re-formulated since then, and my skin has changed also so I was keen to see if it suited me any better. And so far, I have been enjoying it!

Going into 2014 | Reflection on 2013's resolutions

At the start of the year I made some new years resolutions and wrote about them here. Now I’d like to take the time to reflect on my year and see if I actually achieved my resolutions from the past year as 2014 is fast approaching.

Firstly I made the resolution to be more focussed and motivated - specifically when it came to college work. I’m happy to say that I have achieved this resolution. At the start of last year I was taking some subjects that I really didn’t enjoy and most likely resulted in my slump when it came to college work. If there’s one lesson I’ve learned this year it would be that you can’t force yourself to do something that you whole heartedly hate. I changed a few of my subjects in September and have turned my grades around. I still have a long way to go though, with seven exams in the summer it could all go pear-shaped again.

My second resolution was to be more spontaneous this year. Throughout the year I’ve struggled with anxiety - something which has never effected me so much before - and so I haven’t been as spontaneous as I’d planned. However, Lucy & I did venture to London on our own for the first time this year - which can be seen here - so I’d like to say I’m getting there. I also passed my driving test this past October so with this new sense of freedom I’m hoping I’ll  have more spontaneous adventures next year.

Instead of making new resolutions for 2014 I’m going to stick with the same ones going into the new year. Both resolutions are still very relevant to me and I wouldn’t say I have completely achieved them yet - although I am getting there.

Did you achieve your resolutions for 2013?

Side note: Sorry for the lack of posts on here over the past couple of months but college work piled up and personal issues also prevailed. Also, the lack of decent natural lighting has made it difficult to take blog pictures. Hopefully in the new year things will get back to normal. We hope you all had a very happy holidays!

New year, new me | 2013 New Years resolutions

Happy 2013!

I decided that this year I was going to write myself some new years resolutions. I’ve never set myself resolutions before however I feel as though I need a kick up the bum to not let this year go to waste.

My first resolution is to become more focussed and motivated this year. Recently I’ve entered a bit of a slump where I really can’t be bothered to do anything. This has unfortunately affected my college grades as I’m underachieving. I’ve always called myself the Queen of procrastination but recently I’ve taken this to a new extreme (even as I’m writing this I’m supposed to be doing chemistry revision for upcoming exams *sigh*). So, because of this I feel as though I should take matters into my own hands and do something about it as I don’t want to be disappointed when it comes to A-level results day.

My second resolution is to live life to the fullest that I can. Though this sounds cliché I feel as though I don’t take up as many of the opportunities in life that I possibly can. I often find myself in my room on my own with my laptop quite often doing nothing in particular which is not only anti-social but also un-productive. I don’t want to look back on this year and feel as though I haven’t lived it. I want to be able to look back at a year where I took opportunities, where I was spontaneous and where I did things out of the ordinary for me.

Both of resolutions do slightly contradict each other. On one hand I want to put my head down and get on with my education but on the other I want to go on adventures and see where life takes me. But they make sense to me and at the moment I feel as though I would be able to make these changes. Who knows? I may fail and look back at this post and think - ‘well that didn’t work’ - but I’m going to try anyway. :-)

What are your new years resolutions?
